January 22, 2026 Public Service Announcement from Alberta Health Services

Due to an unexpected clinical personnel shortage and inability to secure coverage, the Bow Island Health Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily closed until 7 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 23. At that time, it will reopen to provide its current hours of 7 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term care residents.

Town Council has passed first reading of Bylaw 2026:01 Municipal Development Plan. The MDP outlines long term growth strategies and is the overarching land use and growth plan for the community.

The MDP is currently in Draft Form and will not be finalized without community consultation. Residents can participate by reviewing the plan and completing the survey. There will be an Open House and/ or Public Hearing to hear resident comments and review results of the survey.

At the January 12 Town Council meeting first reading was passed on Bylaw 2026:02 "Community Services Fee Bylaw". Final reading of both bylaws is scheduled for the January 26 Council meeting. Any comments or questions can be directed to cao@bowisland.com or calling the Town Office at 403-545-2522.
