Compost Hours

To reduce Landfill inputs please help by taking your grass clippings to the Town Compost site at 701-6th Ave West. 

COMPOST IS OPENED 24 HOURS AND IS UNDER SURVEILLANCE.

Please take your plastic bags home with you if you are dropping off your own compost. 

 

North Forty Mile Regional Waste Management Services Commission

Hours: Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday 9:00am - 2:50pm

The North Forty Mile Regional Waste Management Services Commission services the northern part of the County of Forty Mile No. 8 to provide recycling and waste transfer services. Inquiries should be directed to the landfill office at

(403) 545-2618.

  • Town and County ratepayers are not charged for bringing their own household and yard waste.

  • Contractors and non-residents: $60 per tonne (Minimum of $20)

  • There are areas and bins at the Landfill for recycling tires, paint, oil, electronics and metal. No Charge

  • Fridges, freezers and water coolers may be recycled at the Landfill for a fee of $20 for removal of the coolant. 

  • Mattresses are also recycled for a $20 fee. (Does not apply to box springs)

  • The Landfill is unable to accept Hazardous Materials.

 

Payment for the above charges: cash or debit.

 Recycling

The Town of Bow Island curbside recycling program is transitioning on April 1, 2025 to the Extended Producer Responsibility Framework.  After this transition, all responsibility will transfer to Circular Materials, including blue bins, curbside pickup, and scheduling. Any questions/issues should be directed to Circular Materials or their designated contractor E360.

As of April 1, the Town of Bow Island’s recycling program will be managed managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Alberta. Click here to visit Circular Materials’ website.

Recycling Collection Depot

Alternatively you can take paper, cardboard, plastics, and tin to the yellow bins below the Water Tower at 605 3rd Street West Bow Island, AB. The collection depot is operated by the Town of Bow Island.

No hazardous materials or electronics are allowed. Please bring tires, paint, oil, electronics, and metal to the North Forty Mile Regional Landfill.
