Water/Wastewater Operator
The Town of Bow Island is a community located 65 km west of Medicine Hat on Highway #3 with a population of 2043. We are a community which is expanding and growing with the surrounding area.
We are currently seeking an Operator with the certification for Water/Wastewater Level 1 Treatment; Level 2 Wastewater Collection; Level 2 Water Distribution. The successful candidate will be required to report to the Town of Bow Island Public Works Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Daily testing and operations of the Water/Wastewater Facilities in accordance to Alberta Environment Guidelines for Code of Practice
• Data collection, preparation of monthly and annual reports for water and wastewater
• Collect and analyze water samples
• Perform routine maintenance on all valves, fire hydrants, water meters as required, lift stations and sewer mains
• Unidirectional flushing of water distribution system
• Water main repairs and upgrade as required; repair sewer lines and manholes as required
• Monthly water meter reading
• Effective organizational skills
• Good written, verbal communications and interpersonal skills
• On-call duties during the week and weekends as required
• Other duties as required.
Qualifications required:
• Certification in Water Distribution 2, Wastewater Collection 2 and Wastewater Treatment 1
• Proficient computer skills
• Knowledge of SCADA Systems
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• Q Endorsement an asset
• Being able to work independently and within a team.
Hours of work: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with a requirement to be on call and work weekends on a rotational basis. The salary will commensurate depending on experience and level of certification.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract prior to employment.
